Larimer County instituted Fire Restrictions on July 29, to run through Tuesday, September 2, 2008. This is not a full Fire Ban, per Larimer County. The restrictions prohibit open fires and fireworks.
However, campfires and cooking fires are allowed in "permanently constructed, stationary, metal or masonry fireplaces". The fire pits within Crystal Lakes which have been inspected and approved based on the current specifications meet the allowable definition provided by Larimer County; and therefore, owners with the approved fire pits can continue to have campfires under the Fire Restrictions. It was the hope when the fire pit specifications and inspections were instituted that safe fire pits would extend the ability to have campfires. We are seeing the positive results of that effort. In cooperation with the Crystal Lakes Fire District, we continue to monitor the fire hazard conditions specific to Crystal Lakes. The fire hazard here is Very High at this time.
In conjunction with the Larimer County Fire Restrictions, "smoking in the open is not allowed under the restrictions." Also, "Citizens can operate a charcoal grill on a non-combustible surface at their private residence."
The office also received a notice that on July 29, 2008, "The Larimer County Commissioners voted to suspend funding for the Middle Bald Mountain public safety radio infrastructure environmental assessment effort due to the County's declining revenues. Larimer County may re- visit the project in the future depending on economic and other conditions."
From the Crystal Lakes newsletter, The Wapiti Bugle, comes this notice:
Attention Crystal Lakes Photographers:
The Wapiti Bugle Committee invites you to submit your favorite wildlife and nature photos from Crystal Lakes for publication in the September/October issue of the Wapiti Bugle. We are interested in animals, birds, insects, flowers and such.
This is your chance to share your unusual, cute, interesting, beautiful photos in our newsletter. The committee will select the photos which best fit space and quality requirements for this issue.
Please email your digital pictures to Ann Watson at watson477@gmail.com by August 11.
We've had more bear sightings and entry into vehicles. Please take all precautions so that your property remains safe, and the bears do not learn to find food in cars, trailers, sheds or residences. Bears literally pay for that acquired knowledge with their lives when they go in search of that high calorie, easy food source and cause property damage. Everyone can help save a bear's life by making sure there is nothing that would attract it to your property.
